Dear God, I ask you now
To distance me from fear
To help me see with open eyes
To hear with open ears.
Give me the strength to feel my pain
To break open the shell
And learn the lessons I must glean
From every time I fell.
Give me time to be in peace
To let go of the fight
Between the tears of joy and loss
In countless sleepless nights.
I ask forgiveness for the days
I didn’t understand
I swore I was in full control
And denied your loving hand
So God I ask, to trust the path
That you have laid for me
To walk in light
The only light that can truly set us free.
